Donate! But First, A Letter from the American Cancer SocietyBill - As you get ready these final days for your trip, please know how much we appreciate your efforts and are awed by your commitment to this in memory of Betty and in support of the mission of the American Cancer Society. One person can really make a difference. In the mid 80's a local surgeon Dr Gordon Klatt wanted to help raise funds for his local American Cancer Society office in Tacoma Washington. A marathon runner, he to decided to do it in a way that was fun for him. In May 1985 he ran a grueling 24hrs around a track for more than 83 miles. Supported by pledges from friends and family he raised $27,000 to fight cancer and the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life was born. Twenty years later you are taking up the personal challenge. Pushing your limits of endurance and inspiring others to join you in the fight. Klatt's one day on foot is your one day on the bike but you will have many one days - not so different from a patient who takes treatment one day at a time for 6-8 weeks. Your miles are a testimony to the strides we have made in cancer research and a tribute to every person who has been touched by this disease. The American Cancer Society strives to assist those fighting the disease from all angles: research, advocacy, education and services. Volunteers like you fuel our progress. By 2015, ACS aims to prevent almost five million additional deaths from cancer, avoid six million new cancer diagnosis and measurably improve the quality of life for those with the disease. That is the challenge we have set for ourselves as an organization -Your efforts and support is bringing us closer to realizing these goals. Thank you. Melissa Peacock
